Business are jobs

If you’re thinking about building your own business, you probably want to read this.

Before you continue, I would like you to pause for a moment and reflect a bit, on why you’ve started this journey, and what you really wanted. Financial freedom probably for most of people (and me too).

And the solution has been this : build that business. Your own.

That seems the only way in. At least, that’s what being said.

I’m not saying it’s false, or that is bad. On the contrary, that is one (if not the only) true path towards freedom. The thing is, I’m not happy with the ideas around that.

Those going on this path have generally two ideas that stems directly from this concept of the sexiness of owning your business that’s been sold over the years.

That is, that :

• jobs are useless and enslaving

• those who have regular jobs are lowly people

These are the core ideas I’m not okay with, at least not fully. There are some truths to the first one, but in general there is a lot of misconception, lies, and a bit of manipulation from the info streams.

What is a job ?

First off, let’s define what’s exactly a “job”.

Basically, a job is any activity you can perform for other people in exchange of money. As simple as that, no need for complicated etymology and dictionary stuff, this is common sense.

Then, where does this negative conception of job come from ?

Well, it comes from the many critiques over the internet and main media streams, especially among the new generations, against the school system and what it prepares for : a corporate job in a company that hopefully pays enough the worker.

I’m not going to discuss over that.

What I want you to pay attention here is : separate the concept from its (common) consequence.

There is the concept of jobs, and there are what it leads to in general : working endless hours, dismissing dreams and goals, being under-paid, selling your freedom, and the list goes on.

If you’re aware of it, you’re see how it’s easy to understand these two things.

First, that the current consequences of jobs are not was being intended, they have not been designed to keep you enslaved. At least, they shouldn’t. That is another conversation but let’s keep it at that.

Secondly, business are jobs.

Business are jobs

That might be astonishing to you, but let’s think again about it.

Entrepreneurship, owning a company, being a CEO, being an investor, every remunerated activity is a job as per se. Because it involves someone paying for the service one is offering.

We’re all doing jobs, at any level, no matter how much you’re paid.

You build your own business. You sell a product or service to a high-profitable niche with large profit margin. That’s doing something in exchange for money, no matter the amount. That’s a job.

Remove this “business is sexy, jo isn’t” from your head.

The truth

What’s being thought isn’t regular job’s as they are, but 3 things that they happen to have less than a “business” as seen by most people :

• income : people with regular jobs tend to have less income than business owners

• position/impact : as ugly as it might seem, reg jobs aren’t often seen and recognized for their work

• freedom : it is well-known that 9-5 is overtaking people’s control on their time and how they spend it

These are the three things.

So the question isn’t :

“How do I build a business ?”

The question is :

“How an I design the life I want exactly ?”

And to do that, you can make use of many vehicles. One of the best is “business”. It teaches you basically everything.

But, a job isn’t necassarily what you must leave to live the life you want ! Many jobs pay extremely well, and fill the three gaps we cited eaerlier. And conceptually, jobs are businesses, and depending on the specifications, jobs can be more attractive than actually owning a business.

I believe one of the best skills in that age is to stay unfazed by what the world is throwing at you and think for yourself.
